Albun Release

David Knopfler (Glascow, 27 de Dezembro de 1952) é um guitarrista Britânico, pianista, baterista, cantor e compositor. Foi um dos fundadores da banda Dire Straits.

Em 1978, o Dire Straits grava seu primeiro LP , que incluia os hits "Sultans of Swing", "Water of Love" e "Six Blade Knife". No segundo semestre, o grupo se apresenta no Reino Unido, França, Holanda e Alemanha, fazendo grande sucesso pela Europa. O grupo assina com a Warner Brothers dos EUA, e em 1979, é lançado o álbum "Communique". O álbum consolida de vez a banda na cena mundial com os hits "Lady Writer", "Angel of Mercy" e "Time in the West". Fazem uma enorme turnê e grande parte dos shows tem os ingressos esgotados.Paralelamente, tanto o single , quanto o álbum de estréia, continuavam a vender cada vez mais e a dividir posições nas paradas junto com "Communique". Em 1980, gravam "Making Movies", com os clássicos "Tunnel of Love", "Solid Rock", "Skateaway" e "Romeo and Juliet". O pianista Roy Bittan toca teclado no disco e David Knopfler deixa o grupo para tentar carreira solo.

Durante as gravações de Making Movies, o Dire Stratis sofre sua primeira baixa quando David Knopfler deixa a banda por desentendimentos com seu irmão Mark, uma vez que ele queria mais espaço para compor e cantar suas próprias músicas. Assim, ele parte em carreira solo.
